3 Ways for Your Brand to Stand Out on Instagram
My dirty little secret is hidden in the Screen Time section of my iPhone. Yup, I spend wayyy too much time on Instagram. And the worst part is that I like it.
But the downfall occurs here: when you spend hours per day on an app that’s constantly being saturated with content, it can be hard to actually pay attention. And it’s even harder to try and remember what someone posted yesterday.
Not a big deal right? It’s just Instagram. Wrong. If you generate leads from IG, you want to stay top of mind for your dream clients. You don’t want to spend hours perfecting your content and offers just for them to scroll right past it.
So, how do you stay top of mind? How do you stop the scroll?
Well, the ol’ cliche of course: consistency is key. When it comes to staying on your ideal client’s mind, you have to build two things: brand recognition and brand loyalty. There’s a lot that goes into building them, but I’m here to tell you specifically how to build them by branding your Instagram.
#1: Use a consistent brand voice
Brand voice is simply how you communicate your brand personality through words. The language you choose, how you structure your captions, and phrases that are specific to you make up your brand voice - they tell your audience whether you’re casual, formal, elegant, boujee, and so on.
I mean, think about it: how do people get to know you as person in real life? By what you say, what you tell them, your communication. And how do you say/tell/communicate? With your voice.
So, if you want your brand to be scroll-stopping, let your personality SHINE!! Don’t use the same boring words your old professor used to describe stuff; write like you speak out loud, so people know it’s you! If your loyal fans can’t imagine your voice in their head as they’re reading your captions, Houston, we have a problem.
#2: Use consistent visuals
Do you have a brand identity? Well, then you’d better use it! (And if not, click here so I can help you solve that.) Your brand identity is called an identity for a reason - it’s how your audience recognizes you visually. That blend of colors, fonts, and other graphic elements should all make your dream client think of you right away.
My followers can spot a piece of my content from a mile away because they’re familiar with my branding. I’ve used the same color palette, fonts, etc. for months now, so my audience knows when something is a Designed by Shyne post.
That’s brand recognition. If you want your audience to recognize your brand, use. consistent. visuals. 👏🏽
And pro-tip: if you use Canva, you can upload your fonts and input your brand colors so they automatically show up for every graphic you create.
#3: Step up your DIY game
I get it - not everybody has the eye or the time for design; so I’m gonna give you some quick pro-tips that’ll make even the snobbiest of designers do a double-take [and a double-tap] at your IG posts!
- Limit yourself to 2 fonts, 3 maximum.
- Don’t go too color crazy.
- Left align text ALWAYS.
- STOP SHARING VALUABLE PIECES OF EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION IN ALL-CAPS. IT’S HARD TO READ, IT HURTS THE EYES, AND WE FEEL LIKE YOU’RE YELLING.
So, now that you have 3 brand designer-approved steps to bomb ‘Gram branding, go get ‘em tiger! Remember, the ultimate key here is to stay consistent. That's how to get people to remember your brand (even after several hours of scrolling like myself)!
